Rushane Sumanasekara
Cross-Cultural Creations

Over the past few centuries, numerous composers have sought to draw upon musical practices from differing cultures and hybridise these elements through the creation of unified musical works. Showcasing influences from numerous musical traditions including Western classical, jazz as well as folk music of Sri Lanka and Ireland, this recital will truly demonstrate the boundary-less nature of cross-cultural composition.

Eamon Feeney
Abel Carlevaro, A New World For Classical Guitar

Eamon Feeney will perform the compositions of Uruguay's most significant figure in the world of classical guitar, Abel Carlevaro. Carlevaro contributed compositions, performances and the first modern comprehensive method for classical guitar. Carlevaro rewrote the rules of classical guitar technique and explored the parameters of sound on classical guitar through his compositions. Carlevaro did this while incorporating the popular music of Uruguay and the Río del Plata basin into his works. Eamon researched all these facets of Carlevaro's music to deliver a performance that faithfully conveys Carlevaro's techniques, popular influences and aesthetics. This will be the first all-Carlevaro concert in Sydney, including works not heard by Sydney audiences before.
