The Gut and the Brain: It's Complicated
Join us at the Museum of Human Disease for a night hearing all about the wonders of the human brain.
Brain Awareness Week is a global event which focuses on raising awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research.
The night begins with a headline talk from UNSW's Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Professor Margaret Morris in a talk titled "The Gut and the Brain: It's Complicated" Professor Morris will outline the increasingly complex dialogue between our gut and our brain.
Professor Morris has published over 240 peer-reviewed scientific papers and leads a 70-person strong department at UNSW. Her research addresses critical questions concerning the impact of adverse early life events and lifestyle factors on chronic disease risk. She has worked extensively on the impact of maternal obesity on health of the offspring, and explored both pharmacological and lifestyle (e.g. exercise) options for intervention.
After Professor Morris' talk you will have the opportunity to explore the Museum and engage with UNSW researchers in hands on activities exploring how we see, how we perceive the world around us, how we maintain balance, how our brain grows and what happens when things go wrong in the brain.
The Gut and the Brain: It's Complicated is an event held in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, the Museum of Human Disease, the School of Medical Science, the Departments of Pharmacology and Neuroscience and the Sydney Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.
Ticket price includes entrance to the Museum of Human Diseases.
