Research in Progress Meeting
The St George and Sutherland Clinical School Research in Progress Meetings, are a lunchtime research seminar open to researchers, students, UNSW and St George Hospital staff and any interested members of the public.
Our speaker is from the University of Sydney, and will speak on the below topic:
Dr James Chong– Cardiac Repair using Recombinant PDGF and Pluripotent Stem Cells
Dr James Chong MBBS, FRACP, PhD is an interventional cardiologist at Westmead hospital and Co-director of the Centre of Heart Research at Westmead Institute for Medical Research/University of Sydney. His research aims to develop new therapies for cardiac patients including those with heart attack and heart failure. A recent focus has been developing recombinant human PDGF-AB growth factor and pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes as therapeutics for heart repair. He has published in high impact journals including Nature, Cell Stem Cell and Science Translational Medicine. In recognition of this work he has received awards including a NSW CVRN Ministerial Award for Rising Stars in Cardiovascular Research, a Heart Foundation Paul Korner Innovation Award and a Metcalf Prize for Stem Cell Research.
